Catelas Identification and Early Case Intelligence allowed our client to conclude an investigation in 80% less time and generate a comprehensive yet defensible report.

Problem

Our client operated globally and was exposed to a range of risks, such as the FCPA & local anti-bribery legislation, fraud, kick-backs etc.. Its local operations & third parties needed to be audited and incidents occurred that needed to be investigated and reported. In most cases, many of the incidents and audits concluded with no further action. However, such audits took time and resource and often, ‘red-herring’ incidents took longer and required more resource to conclude than those where something was discovered. The process was exasperated by the remoteness of the incidents and the lack of a complete picture at the outset, of local operations & personnel.

At any given time, our client had many issues under review. It was difficult to understand where the real risks were and how to prioritize efforts across their portfolio of issues. Additionally, providing comprehensive conclusions & documentation for each incident was time consuming.

Solution

Firstly, without collecting any data, Catelas Identification was used within hours of an incident being reported and a preliminary report generated. Our client could quickly see who all the players were, how they connected to each other and the client/3rd party, and identify those that might have been involved in the incident. This allowed some investigations to be concluded at this point.

When an incident was confirmed, Catelas Early Case Intelligence was used to quickly generate a report detailing not only the employees involved, but also the key communications and associated time frames. Investigators were able to use the patented relationship analytics to guide themselves to the key ‘hot documents’.

Value

Catelas allowed our client to better understand incidents much earlier in the process than previously possible. Audits & Investigations were far more efficient as the auditors & investigators were better informed – they knew who to interview and what questions to ask before leaving headquarters. ‘False alarms’ were concluded much more quickly, yet comprehensively, than before, saving time and effort as well as business disruption. Bottom line, costs were reduced, reports were generated quickly and efforts were automatically focused where most needed.
